Kick starting the plastic waste free campaign at DES’s New English school Ramanbaug in Pune today morning the Union Minister for Environment, Forests and climate change Shri Prakash Javadekar said that the campaign to make cities plastic free would go a long way in making the swaach bharat mission successful. He said that his ministry would provide dustbins for segregation of garbage in schools. The Minister also suggested the formation of eco clubs in schools. While distributing cloth bags to school children the Minister urged the children to make Pune a plastic free city. Participating in a city cleanliness drive along with hundreds of school children the Minister said that there should be a spirit of competition between cities, towns and streets for being the cleanest. The plastic waste free campaign would go a long way in inculcating eco-consciousness among the young generation. 

 
1lakh 75 thousand students participated in the plastic waste free campaign from Pune and Pimpari-Chinchwad. About 60 ton plastic waste was collected from across the city.
